Asia is a diverse and fascinating continent. Many backpackers have already traveled to Southeast Asia, one or more of the countries Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, East Timor and Brunei. My first experience of Asia was the student exchange program to Kaohsiung, Taiwan, in 10th grade. This, initially, has been my motivator for all future travel. Leaving Europe, leaving the well-known, and diving into a foreign culture without speaking the language of the country was my first important experience. However, I did not focus on Southeast Asian countries, as many backpackers do. Flights to this region are comparatively cheap and also affordable if I don’t have a month or more time available to travel. I focused on East Asian countries when I traveled for 3 months after my Masters graduation. I wanted to explore places “off the beaten track”, less common but not any less fascinating ones. Any other countries are still on my travel bucket list for the future.
On the following map, all countries which I have already traveled to are colored. If you move the mouse pointer over those, the country name appears, and by clicking, the page of the specific country, including all related articles, opens.
