Fiji is a very common destination for backpackers in Australia. There are many flights heading from Australia to either Suva or Nadi. From my personal experience, Viti Levu, the biggest of the approximately 300 islands of Fiji, won’t be sufficient to gain a true Fiji experience. Therefore, you would have to take a ferry to the group of the Mamanuca Islands, or, even more special, the Yasawa Islands. I stayed in Nadi only the nights after and before the international flights, as the flight schedule did not align with the ferry times. Apart from these two nights, I spent my whole time on one of the Yasawa Islands, a great experience. During my time in Fiji, I spent most of my time focusing on my diving license (PADI open water). There are great diving spots, even areas for shark watching.
